An elective course in the Specialized Studies Program in Connoisseurship in Fine & Decorative Arts. Join popular UC Irvine Extension instructor Dr. Irini Vallera-Rickerson for a Friday evening lecture and slide presentation on Pompeii and The Roman Villa. The following day, meet at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for an instructor guided tour of the exhibition, "Pompeii and the Roman Villa: Art and Culture Around the Bay of Naples." This exhibition, organized by the National Gallery, Washington, DC, includes works of art from the imperial and aristocratic villas including sculpture, paintings, mosaics, and luxury arts, some never before seen in the U.S. The exhibition focuses on the influence of Classical Greek culture around the Bay of Naples, where wealthy Romans displayed impressive art collections in sumptuous homes. Transportation to and from the Los Angeles County of Museum of Art and no-host lunch on your own. Limited onsite parking is available. Fee is $7 per car and not included in course fee. Refund deadline one week prior to start date.
Irini Vallera-Rickerson, Ph.D., Vallera/Rickerson Associates, Laguna Niguel. Dr. Rickerson is an authority on architects and architecture, art history and the ancient cultures of Greece and Rome, and decorative arts and designers. She is currently gallery director, Orange Coast College, and OCC "Faculty Member of the Year" for 1993, and the "County Faculty of the Year" for 1994.
